After creating a preform with sintered carving burs or your preferred sequence of carving bits, many lapidary artists turn to the 280, 600, 1200, and 3,000 grit diamond polishing bits for sanding and polishing commercial lapidary materials using a Foredom or Dremel. These diamond polishing bits are followed by the use of a 14,000 grit Nova Point for optimal results. To fit these shafts, a #481 collet is needed for Dremel tools, which can be purchased for a few dollars at any hardware store selling Dremel accessories.
